The town hall of Schöneberg in Berlin is renowned around the world for the iconic speech that US President John F. Kennedy delivered on its balcony in 1963. His powerful words of solidarity with the German people – “Ich bin ein Berliner” – have become emblematic of the Cold War era. Prior to that day, the building had served as the seat of the West Berlin government from 1948 to 1990.
