Description

This palace, nestled in a delightful park, packs a lot of German history into its small size. In 1740, the Prussian noble family's country estate was turned into a summer residence for Frederick II's estranged wife, Elisabeth Christine. After her death in 1797, it went into a long period of neglect. During Nazi rule, they used the palace to store 'degenerate' art. In 1949, it became the seat of East Germany's first president, Wilhelm Pieck, and later served as a state guesthouse.
