Description

Affectionately called "Alex" by Berliners

Named for Russian Tzar Alexander I during a visit, Alexanderplatz is one of Berlin's busiest squares. Once an ox market, the architecture and uses of the square have changed over time. Renovation after reunification have transformed it into a thriving central hub of business and tourism now.

The arhitecture of this large square was once ridiculed because of the odd shapes and poor aesthetics socialist governing left behind. The new square has alleviated much of this "ugliness", and Berliners once again speak of "Alex" with some pride. Any number of activities can be found within a stone's throw of the central square. Shopping to dining and way beyond, this is another place to see and experience in the city.
